I Know You're Wondering...

It's been several weeks since an update on the hydrangea saga. At last publication, this was our poor little girl...

I think she has actually perked up a little lately...with some new growth even.

Maybe there's hope for her yet.

Hydrangea Novelette

Oh My...you are SOOOO in for more hydrangea DRAMA. (hee hee hee)

So, I "treated" my hydrangea, (that was actually starting to grow pretty nicely) to a special diet of plant food. I also gave it a little extra love through the means of actually watering it.

This is how it thanked me...

Ouch!

So, I was still trying to decide whether to pull it or not. People seem to agree that I watered or fertilized too much and it still has hope. So I was going to leave it. Others DARED to suggest that it was protesting me forcing my loyal readers to put up with St. Louis posts all week. (LOL)

Then today happened.

For history, I will sum up by saying my mother and I DO NOT have a mother-daughter relationship and probably never will. It is a trust issue that will not be resolved and I am okay with that. However, she tries to pretend that there is a relationship there once in a while and shows up at our house to see the boys. So that is what she did today. Along with her, she brought a little cherry tree for Aaron (she had given an apple blossom to Noah several years ago) A very nice gesture.

So now I have:
A. A cute little tree that needs a home
B. A hydrangea that doesn't seem to want to grow high enough to cover the drain pipe sticking out of the front of my house
C. A DECISION to be made.

Pretty simple...Pull the hydrangea...

and replace it with the little tree.

Now, I have a hydrangea that I have blogged about and we ALL seem to have a little piece of hope for the little guy (yes, it must be boy since everything else in this house is) Aaron still wanted to water it sitting on the front lawn.

So I say to my husband, "We HAVE to plant this somewhere...it has too much invested in it."

So he and my mom decided that it can go in next to the steps. I fight this because I don't like it when it is not uniform on both sides. So my mom says, "We want to go to Flowerland anyway, why don't we go get you another hydrangea to put on the other side." So I pull $20 from our garage sale money (see future posts) and send them off to the store to get another one.

They come home toting TWO hydrangea plants. UGGGHHHH!

Now, I have two beautiful hydrangeas to plant in the front yard. It will be nice and uniform around the front steps. Wonderful, right?

Can you even see the little purple on the two sides?

What about my poor little injured guy in the first place?
Steve decided to plant it next to my lilacs on the other side of the house.

Maybe life next to plants that are actually GROWING will be a motivator for the little guy.

Who would have thought that one could write so much about a little bit of yard work. I must say though, this has been kind of a fun entry to write.

So...my loyal readers. you will now be subjected to Hydrangea, Chapter II
"After the Transplant"
Aren't you relieved the story goes on?

Hydrangea Week 4

I think it's safe to say that my little hydrangea is going to make it. I know everyone else is probably sick of my weekly Tuesday post about my little plant, but I am enjoying seeing the progress. Go little plant...grow like the wind!

I wonder if it will get any flora this year...and what color it will actually be someday.

Next step is to figure out what covering I need to put around it. Some people say mulch but someone once told my husband that mulch can impede water getting to the roots. I have some research to do next week after we get home.

Here's the latest progress.

Mystery Plant Week 3

Thanks to Queen Mommy , our mystery plant is no longer a mystery.
It is a confirmed Hydrangea.
And it has shown quite a bit of growth this week.

Exhibit A Week 1

Exhibit B Week 2

Exhibit C This week

I'm so glad I didn't pull it. It may actually be big enough to hide the gas pipe coming out of the front of our house in the next ten years.

Happy Tuesday.

Mystery Plant Week 2

Last week, I got a ton of response over my mystery plant. The overwhelming consensus was to leave it alone. I think that is good advice. Margerie at Margerie's Blog suggested that I post it each week to show the progress. I thought that was a fun idea so here it is on week 2. I don't think it looks much different other than I did trim down the twigs a little bit. I think the greenery may be a little higher.
There were also a few questions about how dark the soil was. It was planted in topsoil and I got one of those plant fabrics to cover around it because the weeds in those beds last year were out of control. I covered the fabric with a little more topsoil just to hold it down. I am trying to decided if I want to put mulch or something else. I have had conflicting reports about mulch. Any ideas?

Another follow-up: Yesterday's post about the devotional. I got several emails asking what book I use. Like I said before, I love this book. there are three sets, 2-5 year olds, 6-9 year olds, and or pre teens. They have separate ones aimed at boys or girls. And they have two in each age level. I got it at the Family Christian stores a good two years ago when we started praying with Noah. I think he is ready to move up a set but since Aaron is still in the first one, we are repeating it the third time around. They are all spiral bound, which is why I think it has lasted the test of time.
Each day starts with a verse, followed by a story, followed by three questions about the story and then a prayer. I have always used the prayer as an echo. The second page is a fun activity. We have done a lot of these activities and Noah really enjoys them.

Have a great Tuesday.
