Playtime with Mom and Dad

I spend every day, all day with the boys. Steve spends all evening, every evening with the boys. It's the best schedule for our family. Sometimes we both find it hard to do creative things that keep the boys amused and getting along. I am already worried about the boys being together too much and it is still only the first week of vacation. The bickering set in a little today.

Nevertheless, both Daddy and I found creative attention grabbers this week.

I came home from work the other night to find this in the living room:

Daddy and boys made a fort and watched television and even ate dinner in their creation. The boys have been asking every day since for me to make them a fort. I explained to them that it is a "daddy thing". They're okay with that.

I found a fun book at the library, "Kid Concoctions." How fun are these? Our first one didn't turn out too well so we resorted to making the cupcakes that I never got for my birthday. I actually let the boys do a lot more than usual. I let them put the cups in...

use the mixer...

spoon the batter...

lick the spoons (yes, I know you're not supposed to)...

and even do some of the frosting.

This was actually a big step for me. I tend to be a bit of a control freak about things like that. I don't know who was more proud when it was done, the boys for helping so much, or me for letting them do it. Either way, the first thing the boys asked this morning, "What concoction will we make today?"

Happy Friday.

Forts are the best! I'm not very good at letting my girls help in the kitchen either. I'm not sure I could be that brave! I am impressed.

our best tents are made from sheets...they're lighter than blankets so they stay up longer!!! :) Sounds fun at your house...I need to get more creative and let the kids "play" in the kitchen.

Very nice fort. And yep, they are totally a daddy thing. But it seems like I am the one who ends up cleaning it up!

Good for you for letting them do that much. I won't let my kids either because I am a control freak too.

Yep, forts are a 'Daddy' thing in our house too - usually made from hanging blankets off of the top bunk. We haven't done one in a while though.

Congrats on being so brave with the boys in the kitchen - I'm not sure I could do that! :)

Forts are the coolest and who can resist licking the spoon! Have a great weekend!

We make forts all the time in the house...especially on rainy days or at night. The kids love it and sometimes they even sleep there.

The things you do to keep the little ones busy!

Yay! I love kids in the kitchen! I mean... of course it drives me nuts but I love how much they can learn and how it makes them feel so grown up. Good for you!! (and them)
