So Proud

All kids like recognition. Come to think of it, all HUMANS like recognition. Kids especially love to receive an outward display of a job well done.

Noah is no exception.

As you all know, Noah has been in self-defense class for the last eight weeks. He started a little timid, but after much practicing at home, he got better at sparring.

If you can see the smile, he actually started having fun.

Last week, he had his test for yellow belt. We practiced a lot. Although he struggled with reverse punch when he switched feet, his instructor said he did exactly what was expected for testing into a yellow belt.

So, as a result, last night he received his yellow belt...

a certificate, and most importantly to him, a medal.

He stripped off the belt as soon as class was over, but the medal didn't leave his neck all night.

All the way home, he kept saying, "I'm so proud of me." And he stayed proud all night, and it showed...

including falling asleep with it around his neck.

My dear husband has been teaching karate for years. It is such a great sport for kids! If you have a local tournament- they are so much fun. Even if you just go to watch...My 5 year old son won the sparring contest last year. He beat a little freckle faced girl with pig tails and boy was she mad!

It was all good fun. Congrats Noah on your yellow belt!
