I think the bloggy carnival is a fun way to increase traffic to your blog, and see what other ideas people have for their blog.
However, I am taking a stand.
I was a new blogger two carnivals ago and that one and the most recent one in April, I was a mad woman. I entered more than 700 contests and guess what I won? NADA! Not a thing. The carnival took away from my time with my family because I was busy entering contests when I should have been playing with my husband and kids.
So here's my take one things.
I think that if you're so inclined, enter to your heart's content. You can even use the button above if you like.
But I will only be entering the contests of those already in my reader. I feel that I am truly being more genuine that way. And that way if I win, it will be from one of the wonderful people I have already come to know in the blogosphere.

After four carnivals worth of entering, I've only won once - and that was from a blog that I already read. I'll enter contests on blogs that I read anyway, and maybe a few others, but I don't go crazy with it anymore.
Your right- I spent way too much time last time entering contests. Entering the ones in my bloglines is a great idea, and maybe a couple others. Good luck this time!
One of them, I entered about 200, and I won 5 of them, but one person never fulfilled their delivery of the winning item.
Last time, I only entered about 25-30 and I didn't win anything.
One of my giveaways right before last Christmas, I was giving away 5 different things and 2 of the winners were people who already frequented my blog.
Oops! I take that back, during the last contest, I did win a coupon for a free 6 pack of Yoplait Kids yogurt from a blogger I already visited.
I've never participated in the previous carnivals. I did the 5 minute for mom Blog Party and visited a few blogs but found it overwhelming. I am participating in this carnival and do have a prize. I'm not sure how many others I will enter, though. I'll mess with it if I have some free time, but right now I am deep in job-hunting so I need to put my spare time there. I agree with everything you said, though.
Well...actually I think I might do a little perusing this time around. I was NOT going to do that, but then both Dave and the kids are gone this week so I'm all by my lonesome...
